Long Guns:
To successfully complete a California firearm transfer, you will need a valid California Drivers License or Identification Card that shows your current address. You must be a US Citizen (Legal Alien and Nonimmigrant Alien, see below) and the buyer must be at least 21 years of age (or 18 with a hunting license). Additionally, a valid Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) or hunting license is required.
Handguns:
For handgun purchases, you will also require a valid California Drivers License or Identification Card with your current address. A valid FSC is necessary (see below for more information), as well as proof of residency. Just like with long guns, you must be a US Citizen (Legal Alien and Nonimmigrant Alien, see below) and at least 21 years of age to meet the firearm sale requirements.
If your DL/ID does not have a current address, you must present another valid GOVERNMENT-ISSUED document that shows your current residence address. Acceptable documents include DMV Registration, City owned Utility Bill, etc. This is a requirement for ALL firearm transactions. Please note that DL/IDs with PO Boxes are NOT accepted, and the above requirement applies. Legal Aliens and Nonimmigrant Aliens MUST also provide a current CA Hunting License.
If you hold a "Federal Limits Apply" License, you will need to bring a valid US Passport, a certified copy of your US birth certificate, or a valid Permanent Resident card.
Please be aware that ALL FIREARMS SALES ARE FINAL, and there is a 25% Restocking Fee on denied DROS or any other circumstances where the firearm cannot be delivered to the customer.
All firearms must be picked up within 30 days from the date your DROS was submitted. If you exceed 30 days, another DROS ($25.00) will need to be run on your firearm, and you must wait another 10 days.
Storage Fees / Abandoned Firearms: Firearms received that have not begun DROS within 7 days of being received from their transferring FFL will incur a $50 storage fee for up to 30 days. If the firearm is stored for longer than 30 days, it will incur an additional $50. Firearms will be stored for up to 90 days at $50 per month. Firearms NOT claimed after 90 days will be considered ABANDONED and will become property of Coyote Point Armory.
SPECIAL ORDERS: Please note that payment/deposit placed on special orders are NOT REFUNDABLE.
Firearms Safety Devices: Effective January 1, 2002, every firearm sold in CA, whether new or used, must include a CA Department of Justice Certified firearm safety device. This must be on the CA DOJ FSD Certified List - http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/index.html.
Most manufacturers ship their guns with a lock; however, not all locks are CA DOJ certified. If your firearm does not include a lock, you can purchase one from us for $5.00 + Tax to fulfill the requirement. Alternatively, you may purchase a lock elsewhere and bring the lock and receipt with you when you pick up the firearm. The receipt must be dated within the last 30 days of your pick-up date.
